Kenautics Gets DHS Funding to Develop Underwater Tracking Tech

Kenautics Inc. has secured $157,800 in funds from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the Maritime Object Tracking Technology solicitation to build a tracking system for marking and monitoring objects underwater. The company proposed to repackage its handheld Diver Navigation and Imaging System into a ruggedized buoy that can be deployed from air, land or sea under harsh conditions.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded SecureLogix and Achilles Heel Technologies a total of $1.96 million in funds through Phase II of the Small Business Innovation Research program to build technologies that will support dynamic network modeling capabilities for emergency communication and risk management networks. SecureLogix will continue the development of a modeling tool that will assist 911 decision makers.

DHS S&T Funds Kynamics to Develop Language Translation Tool

The Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) has selected Kynamics to develop a portable language translation system with funds worth $192.5K. The California-based awardee will deliver this tool under the Silicon Valley Innovation Program to help the U.S. Coast Guard communicate with non-English speakers when required by missions. S&T issued the award through the Language Translator solicitation.

GAO: Congress Should Define Central Leadership Role to Oversee Cyber Strategy Implementation

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has called on Congress to consider drafting a bill to designate a leader in the White House to oversee the government’s cybersecurity efforts including the implementation of the National Cyber Strategy. GAO identified 23 federal agencies responsible for cybersecurity improvement efforts and found that some agencies have developed initiatives.

Updated CISA Federal Cybersecurity Strategy Directs Improved CDM Scores Through FY 2021

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has released an update to its action plan for strengthening federal cybersecurity in fiscal years 2020 through 2021. The initiative was led by Matthew Travis, the deputy director of CISA. CISA also cited evolving threat landscapes and limitations in cloud, network and encryption capabilities as challenges.
